Kopiko Coffee Candy – A Sweet Alternative for Morning Coffee

Kopiko Coffee CandyKopiko coffee candy has its roots in Indonesia, but the confection has traveled across 80 countries. An Indonesian coffee confectionery manufacturing company, Mayora Indah, introduced the Kopiko brand to the world. The candy is named after the kōpiko coffee bean that is native to Hawaii.

Kopiko is a popular candy among kids, but adults enjoy it more. Its strong coffee flavor mixed with the sweetness of hard candy makes it a delicious sweet for people of all ages. Despite the popularity of Kopiko around the world, the candy is not well known in the United States.

Kopiko has been an international brand for many years and has even traveled all the way to the final frontier! You read that right; astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) have enjoyed Kopiko coffee candy. You might find it interesting to know that there used to be a second variety of Kopiko candy that was manufactured as a Kosher product. It is not available anymore, but if you want it, you can still find it in Israel.

Kopiko Coffee Candy Flavors

There are two flavors of Kopiko candy available: Coffee and Cappuccino. Let’s take a look at the difference between their flavors and ingredients!

Kopiko Coffee Candy

The coffee-flavored Kopiko features coffee extract that lends a natural coffee flavor to the candy. It has an extremely strong coffee flavor, and apparently, 4-5 pieces of Kopiko candy are equal to a cup of espresso! Hard to believe, isn’t it?

The candy looks no different than any other hard candy. It’s a slightly chubby, smooth disc that tastes like coffee. The hardness of the candy does not stay for long. As soon as you taste Kopiko coffee, the flavor starts to tingle your taste buds, slowly melting the candy in your mouth.

We would advise you to be careful when eating it, though. Since it’s a hard candy, you may end up accidentally swallowing it. So, enjoy the taste by slowly snacking on Kopiko candy.  The candy is small in size, so there are no visible effects on your health right away, as far as calories are concerned. However, it’s best to note that Kopiko coffee candy has a high amount of sugar content, so if you consume more than a few, you may encounter some health issues.

Kopiko Coffee Candy Ingredients

The ingredients of Kopiko coffee candy are:

  • Sugar
  • Glucose Syrup
  • Vegetable oil (palm oil or coconut oil)
  • Coffee extract (4.9%)
  • Butter
  • Soy Lecithin
  • Caramel color
  • Salt
  • Natural coffee flavor

Kopiko Cappuccino Candy

Kopiko Cappuccino candy is among the top-selling candy brands in the world. Its taste is uniquely different from its cousin, the coffee-flavored Kopiko. While the Kopiko coffee candy only has one taste, derived from coffee extract, Kopiko Cappuccino has two. It is a double-sided candy.

One side of the candy offers a vanilla flavor, and the other side is the coffee flavor you’d expect from Kopiko. When Kopiko claims that they use original coffee extract, they aren’t kidding! The Java flavor is premium-quality and you can taste it despite the vanilla-flavored side.

Adults and kids can equally enjoy the cappuccino flavor of Kopiko. However, kids do not understand the difference between actual coffee and a candy that simply carries the flavor of coffee. That said, Kopiko gets that balance between sweet and bitter perfectly with their cappuccino candy.
